The Mid-Borough Neighborhood Association (MBNA) was formed by residents of Woodstown who are concerned about neighborhood preservation. We are opposed to inappropriate development in our neighborhoods. In particular, we are concerned about the rezoning of the open space adjacent to Bowen Avenue, East Grant Street and North Main Street, historically known as Bowen Meadow. Bowen Meadow had previously been zoned as a residential area and was recently re-zoned for "redevelopment."
Redevelopment, by definition, is the renovation of a blighted area. Bowen Meadow is not a blighted area, it is an open field in the middle of a quiet residential block. This new zoning would allow a developer to build offices, retail space and restaurants at a high density in the middle of an historic neighborhood. Not only would over-development of this property be detrimental to the neighborhood surrounding it, but it would also adversely affect the center of Woodstown. We believe that open space should be preserved when possible and that development should never adversely affect a neighborhood.
Although the formation of MBNA was sparked by our interest in the future of Bowen Meadow, we are interested in the well being of the borough as a whole. We plan to continue to monitor issues throughout Woodstown and keep our members informed. If you share our concerns, we invite you to become a member. There is strength in numbers, we can make a difference!
Please feel free to contact any of our trustees with questions, concerns or to find out how you can help.
